Experience A Different Kind Of Massage

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you offer?

I offer relief to your sore achy muscles. We all know massage is very effective at doing this. Let me ask you a question: How many times have you gone and gotten a massage, only to feel no different or worse than when you went in? Or you asked for specific areas to be worked, and they were hardly touched?

How is what you are offering different?

The type of bodywork I do is specific to you, the areas that give you the most trouble. This type bodywork involves stretching and range of motion. To receive the full benefits workout attire is recommended and little, if any, oil is used.

Why don't you use oil?

There is a skin under your skin called fascia, it wraps around all of your organs and muscles, kind of like Saran Wrap. The problem with fascia is that it can get tight, which then puts tremendous pressure on the muscles and joints, restricting our mobility and flexibility. In order to release tight fascia, the skin must be held with a steady pressure, "stretching" it away from the muscles underneath. Kind of hard to do when every thing is slipping and sliding with oil.  Imagine trying to open the lid of a tight jar with Crisco oil slathered all over it.

Doesn't regular massage do the same thing?

Regular massage is a great stress reliever, and can give some relief to your sore achy muscles. If you have been with pain for any length of time, or have been involved in an accident you might need a different type of massage, one specific to your needs. You would need someone who specializes in pain relief.

How many visits or treatments are required?

This is a difficult question to answer; some people respond quickly to treatment while others take longer, or some don’t respond at all and require a different type of therapy. I would say on average 8-12 visits. To get the most benefit I would recommend twice a week for 4 to 6 weeks, at minimum once a week.

How should I dress for a session?

Comfortable clothing would be best due to the amount of stretching and range of motion during your session. For the men: shorts or sweatpants, and for the women: shorts or sweatpants and a tank top or sports bra.

Describe a typical session.

The session starts with an individual filling out a form describing the pain, and marking the location on a body map, quick visual assessment of posture and gait as we go back to the room. I will usually start the individual face up (supine) for stretching and range of motion to the lower extremities, compression, rotation of the arm and shoulder, then range of motion to the neck. After the initial stretching and range of motion, we begin to focus on the areas that are giving you the most trouble with various types of modalities from shiatsu/acupressure, myofascial release, and deep tissue techniques.

Will I be sore after the treatment?

Some individuals report of soreness and tenderness, and flu like symptoms. Some individuals report they feel worse for a day or two afterwards, then they begin to feel better. Depending on the length of time you have been living with your pain.
